When Moving Home, whether doing it DIY or using a house moving company, it is easy to forget some basics and easily lose your way with the excitement of moving home. We have put below some important steps to take and when used together with our check list, your move should go all that more smoothly.

Things house movers forget but are essential:

Bank  - Inform your bank of your new address. You can either do this in person or online.

Credit Cards – Inform your credit card companies and any other organisation that receive funds from yourself by means of standing. Again this can be done in person or online.

Insurance Companies – This includes for vehicles, appliances, drains, house etc. It is best to inform these companies 7 days in advance of the move so that you know you are covered.

National Insurance/DSS – Inform the appropriate offices of your move including your local council.

Employer – Inform you place of work and your tax office.

Friends & Relatives – Easy to forget or take for granted but in todays society of social media, its very easy to inform those you care about almost in one simple message.

Utility Companies – Gas/Electric/Water etc. This can be done with one simple phone call or online. If staying with the same companies at your new address then it is a simple case of just transfering over to the new address.

Deliveries – Royal mail, papers, milk and even your window cleaner. Settle any local outstanding bills and inform the post office of your forwarding address. Be aware that the royal mail will need 7 days notice.

Comunication – Contact your telephone providers, internet provider and television providers of your move as soon as you know of your move date. You can often keep your number unless moving outside of your dial code area.

Inform the Television License Board of your new Address.

Vehicle Registration Documents & Driving Licence – Very important to remember to inform dvla and send them the appropriate documents for changing as a fine is imposable for having the wrong home address on these documents.

Life Insurance and Pensions -  Often forgot about but again important. Easily done by phone or online.

Doctors/Dentist – If moving out of the area then you will have to de-register and re-register with the appropriate authority health care.

If you have been using a particular optician/physio etc then request all data from them including dates, treatments etc so that you can pass them onto your new physicians.

If you are a pet owner then inform your vets who can normally recommend a vet in your new area.

Boxes2move hope that we have helped make your move a little more stress free and although there might be other organizations for you to inform, we have covered the most relevant to aid in a more organized moving experience.
